Philadelphia Revealed: A History Podcast from WHYY
Philadelphia Revealed is a podcast from WHYY exploring Philadelphia's history through 10 objects.
Listen here!
podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/philadelphia-revealed/id1755415198
Hosted by Jamie J. Brunson of First Person Arts, you'll get a tour of the Atwater Kent Collection at Drexel University, sometimes called Philadelphia's Attic. It's a collection that's grown over decades, acquiring Philly's material culture from individuals, families, institutions, sometimes literally from the trash. In every episode of this podcast you'll learn about an object in the Atwater Kent collection and hear a story inspired by it from a First Person Arts storyteller. We think every Philadelphian will be able to see themselves in this collection and that learning about Philadelphia's many histories can help us understand its present and future.
This podcast is in support of the Philadelphia Revealed exhibition at PAFA from July 2024. The Philadelphia Revealed Podcast and additional programming-Reshaping Historical Narratives through the Atwater Kent Collection at Drexel University, in collaboration with WHYY and First Person Arts-has been supported by The Pew Center for Arts & Heritage.

    What this fails to mention is that the public defenders office is also a branch of the government like the prosecutors office. Many times they work together to convict innocent people in order to save the state from being sued for malicious prosecution.

    I was at a Phillies game in the 80’s, in the 700 level. They were playing the Mets and Doc Gooden was pitching. I wanted to see this guy pitch but couldn’t enjoy the game because it was crowded with Mets’ fans THROWING THINGS AND HARASSING US. At the time, It was pretty commonplace for Mets fans to show up and do that. Not anymore.

    It’s easy to determine if Matthew is really the author of the messages. For everyone. Read the literature about facilitated communication (FC). There are no controlled study’s that confirm that FC works, there are a lot of controlled study’s that show the facilitator does influence the conversation. Do the test!

    I've been wanting Tyler Perry to do Benjamin I've been wanting Tyler Perry to do Benjamin lay for a long time and on the 3rd I posted and then I was up most of the night and going through things and I came across when I decided I wanted to find a movie a movie about Benjamin late because I figured if somebody finally wrote another biography of him which it's like his book is semi by autobiography and his testimony about what God told him about the races and stuff like that but like I didn't get to finish the book because the copy that I got from the old guys in the neighborhood from the war memorial buildings and you know we we were getting stuff like you know men Porgy were getting a lot of stuff I was between so like from 6 to 15 I was hanging around Porgy and then hehe and I lost contact and stuff and I just wondered whether he had a copy because we were getting all these old books from people that would like a thousand years old when he used to say and they weren't really a thousand but we don't we can't be sure. Because we got some stuff that was rolled up and someone said well they think it's a t o r a h we got all this stuff so we we we we we we we we we we started when we couldn't keep the certain things we we had this happen me and Porgy a dumping stuff like I said at the Schaumburg library in front of it and to Adam Clayton Powell Junior call Junior had his place that he kept things that he said he was going to check out with someone to see what what day was so since he was who is down in DC you know I don't know if he ever took anything to the library of Congress person that we were getting me and Porgy and I am actually stopped collecting things from people like about about 70 mid 74 42 years after he passed on😊 Clayton past and 72 on the same day that Martin Luther King Jr so after the funeral and people will be giving stuff I give the stuff to the Schaumburg me and Porgy o are a couple of times to the dude that have been the super that worked over at Abyssinian that was also the super at our thing but at the building that I lived in 145 West 138th Street I got the guy's name in any anything like that but he used to like with the other dudes in the neighborhood he he had an agreement that they put the stuff in the coal

  • @RobinMariaLopez-yn7xj
    @RobinMariaLopez-yn7xj Місяць тому

    So Benjamin like Franklin and Jefferson seem to have been forgotten to have been friends at the same time so these dudes had the same attitude about the end of slavery where you know people were jumping on Thomas Jefferson for having Sally in this present day and go back in the days when he was running for president and vice president they threw up in his face about his relationship and they wanted to know what his relationship was really about cuz there was some speculation about the relationship being more than just relationship between a slave owner and the slave woman and and it was because she like Franklin's woman always rolled in the couch with him and not on top which was the norm for select mistresses

  • @RobinMariaLopez-yn7xj
    @RobinMariaLopez-yn7xj Місяць тому

    So it's really nice that he got a gravestone and stuff like that I'm glad that they mentioned him I spoke about his contribution but like with everything they don't have all the information and they didn't do as extensive research is sometimes required to get down and dirty about people's lives in situation it's like the Francis Scott Key song black man in chains that every😂😂body's got on that song and the idiots don't understand that the two of the lines or three I forgot which that will mentioned in the Patriot down here in Baltimore and the other couple of papers in Baltimore that will provide an at the time of the thing you know what commenting about he didn't have a right to put that in to the into the song by these people that have fought alongside the Europeans Americans that will African descent a native American descent had also sacrificed their lives in the Battle of Baltimore in 1814

    So this morning I woke up and I have my I guess my sense of humor was pushing me because I got this thing from jcd that said and I said well want you become be his cousin what time is Payne to him because I don't really know if it's a gag that's on the thing with the Instagram or if it's the real jcd that's why I call Johnny Depp I give people new names unfortunately that I like I'm kind of eccentric so you got to understand that you got to be in centric when you're a child and God says okay I want you your 8 years old I want you to start doing research on a book on roots and racism and prejudice and you like OK I I say and then by the time I'm 17 I'm finished up with the book and I get kicked out the house because I wanted to go to college out of state so you know my life is a bunch of weird situations keep on happening to me and everybody in the family says I complain about it well anyway I'm so glad that people who have seen this post and this video on even though it's not that much and that's the wrong place for the grave site by the way people that you got it wrong he's by a tree m or Willow I'm not a m e l m or Willow I got I kind of got his what I received the way he was at because I know that he had no gravestone but I didn't know your people were going to give him a gravestone

    I just read somebody said that we should somebody made the movie I just posted my suggestion for a couple of movies to Tyler Perry and I was suggesting this last night for Benjamin Lay and for him to cast little my little love of my life I'm sorry I'm being fresh Peter from game of thrones I keep on forgetting his last name I keep on forgetting his last name which I'm sorry I don't know why I keep on forgetting people's last name sometimes but I've watched him since the first time I saw him on the TV show on either ABC or NBC so I saw him in two different episodes of two things one episode he played somebody that was sick then I remember him playing a friend of a young boy in a movie I saw parts of it and I didn't see all of it and then I saw him in the one that he was conductor Oporto train station I don't know if he bought it or he what exactly about it I forgot what the what the title was whether it was the conductor or something like that but😊

    One thing in the minute video that they didn't mention and one thing that this guy didn't mention that the papers that talked about Benjamin Franklin and Benjamin lay play forgot to mention that they forgot to mention that the two was sneaking people out of people's places and then the people that didn't have no slaves he was putting slaves where he was sneaking them and their places and stuff like that so he was he actually caused controversy in the United States as we know now when we were colonies for what he was doing and so the papers wrote that he was the first one over where he came from started this mess about freeing the black people all over the world and basically because he got this Revelation that God was saying that he didn't put no hamstery out and he didn't put no racism into the world that was man in the devil

    But seriously I know that the Thomas Jefferson had a copy of the book Benjamin Leigh because l a y come on thing please I'm talking I'm not talking about the explorer so there's three Benjamin's who have a similar name and a similar pronunciation but only one has a different spelling😊

  • @RobinMariaLopez-yn7xj
    @RobinMariaLopez-yn7xj Місяць тому

    I am very happy that I just found the clip about Benjamin Lee but I still haven't found a movie about him you know that what they got their doesn't give all the information that was written in the presses and stuff so over here in the US when he got here and the controversy that was over there when he started the revolution according to what I read from the articles of papers published in Philadelphia at the time of Benjamin Franklin talking about Benjamin Leigh and also Benjamin Franklin I'm saying lay but it's putting okay so when I say late separately l a y separately I will pick that up I'm trying to figure out how to say his name and not get the British explorer named involved in it because he got all these people with the similar name I am so happy however that you have this little clip about the man I have to recommend it for people to believe me when I talk about this man because I've been talking about this man and other people and that have affected black history or involved in black history throughout the world or African related persons throughout the world the Schaumburg library up in Harlem New York previous to the new building where I called the new building used to be two buildings that were adjacent to each other and also had a unit that went into countee Cullen library 136 Street around the corner so but when I saw a picture of what they said was the Schaumburg library the only showed the section that was near the garden part that was in between the buildings😊 and so I guess that was the only building that was preserved for his staff for historical record so and the war memorial buildings that's why I called them there was there was these buildings up in Harlem that we made this kid that was Italian that I hung out with for a little while when I was kidding he became a actor but he wasn't known as a famous actor he just died as a famous actor he he he did a stent in Wise Guy and stuff like that but that was the last time I saw him when he was doing the last time I saw him when I was on the streets in New York and I was too embarrassed to tell him I was homeless because when we were growing up he thought I was going to be somebody because of my talent for writing and because of my brains Berlin turned out to be anything but a babysitter and a housekeeper well anyway the student I used to collect things from people that were passing that happened in world war I and world war II that was up in Harlem and stuff like that so we had our fun and stuff like that so I called him Porgy I don't know what his real name was I saw it and I said I got to keep on I keep on forgetting his real name and the reason I keep on forgetting his real name is I called him Porgy because some dude that we knew and what we called the war memorial buildings which war memorial gardens so there's this nice buildings on there were these nice buildings on 135th Street between 7th and 8th avenue right before you got to the police station on right hand side they all look the same but they had you know people that were from world war I living in it and they have people from world war II living in it and they used to give me and him stuff and we used to give it to the people that I thought you know what to do with some of the stuff because at one point in time I had stuff in the thing and outside of comic books of my cousin was like we don't need all this stuff so you got to get rid of her so give it to her Junior will Adam Clayton Powell Junior and we were dumping things at the Schaumburg library in the evenings when we got stuff and so we just didn't know what to do with young kids you know he was actually younger than me because I found out he died and he's just 64 years oldI'm 67 and he was 64 and I'm like I always thought he was older than me I guess because he was taller than me and I always forget that I was kind of precocious as a younger child when you say get myself into mischief and things that I shouldn't have been getting myself into like exploring places that we were supposed to not be going any place we were sneaking out then my cousin
